So, chosen by God for this new life of love, dress in the wardrobe God picked out for you: compassion, kindness, humility, quiet strength, discipline. Be even-tempered, content with second place, quick to forgive an offense. Forgive as quickly and completely as the Master forgave you. And regardless of what else you put on, wear love. It’s your basic, all-purpose garment. Never be without it.
When I “dress” myself in Christ, I decide to be content with second place. Second, after Christ himself….second, after my husband…. second, after the woman at work who gets on my nerves…..second. Our culture is soooo not “ok” with this concept. We live in a “me first” society. Love says “you first”, my nature says “me first”. “WHAT ABOUT ME?!”
You know, there is so much peace to be had with a “you first” mentality. I don’t have to keep mental tally in my marriage and in my relationships of how much I’ve done, versus how much they’ve done. I just let the Lord show me how He wants me to serve and I do it. If someone takes advantage of me, I just consider it a second mile investment.
If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles.
Scripture says, do twice as much for the person taking advantage of you as they are wanting you to do. Wow! that’s a culturally crazy statement huh??
Being clothed in Christ, being content with second place, is typically not “in style”, as the world determines style….. but you’ll always look sooo beautiful in it. The world will say “put on your boxing gloves”, Christ says put on humility instead and be content with second place.
