“Now God has us where he wants us, with all the time in this world and the next to shower grace and kindness upon us in Christ Jesus. Saving is all his idea, and all his work. All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! ” Ephesians 2:8
Recently, I spoke at a women’s shelter, and wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I am very blessed materially, and was feeling kind of at a loss. What do I say to these dear sisters who don’t even have a place to call their own, who are raising their babies in a dorm. What do I have in common with them?
After years of speaking to groups, large and small, in church and outside of church, I still suffer ( and I do mean suffer) from feelings of “WHAT on EARTH am I DOING HERE???!!! WHAT COULD I POSSIBLY HAVE TO SAY TO THESE PEOPLE??” …let’s just say by God’s grace I’m overcoming insecurity ….. Ya think??? 🙂
When I’m feeling inadequate or insecure, I use those feelings as a reminder to pray. ” It’s not about me God, it’s all about you and them. Please make me a blessing.”
So, when I first got to the shelter, I was introducing myself to the ladies and they were kind of distant. They weren’t too sure, I wasn’t there to judge them, then head back to my big ole comfy house.
Of course you probably can guess what happened. As it turned out, the Lord blessed me through their incredible spirits. I had asked to be a blessing to them and I was the one who received the biggest blessing. Those beautiful women opened -up like flowers in the sunshine when we started worshiping. I gave my testimony and we were instantly sister- friends. The evening ended with smiles, and prayers and hugs. The Lord had me right where He wanted me….leaning on Him. He always wants us to be totally dependent on Him so that he can accomplish His work in us. “All we do is trust him enough to let him do it. It’s God’s gift from start to finish! “
