Voluntary Brain Washing

When I have a thought that is not a “keeper” , maybe it’s a lie from the enemy of our souls or maybe it’s my own insecurity talking, I have to decide whether to keep thinking it  or throw it out.  Because,  when I let a thought hang around too long it becomes a belief, then an attitude,  then an action and actions strung together become way of life.

I’m not a slave to what flies through my head.  No, I can decide what I will think.  In fact, God gave us a whole book of promises and commands  to think. You know, women in particular are sooo bad about mulling.  Turning a thought  over and over in our mind, until the next thing you know, we’re being medicated for anxiety.

I’ve decided that every once in a while, I need to subject myself to voluntary brain washing…..just give that brain a good washing out.  I need to clean out all those little thoughts that set themselves up against the knowledge of God.  Anxiety, fear and worry begin with thoughts that you’ve decided to mull about.  Thinking about  the worst will rob you of the best.  In 25 years of ministry, I’ve seen countless women drive their families crazy simply because of their thought-life.

Let’s give ourselves a good brain-washing every once in a while, maybe even daily, where we clean out our minds with the promises of God.  Whatever is lovely, think upon those things.  Clean brains make for clean hearts.

Philippians 4:8

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.
